Flagtail prochilodus (Semaprochilodus taeniurus) CareSheet
The Flagtail prochilodus (also known as fei feng) is a medium-sized, gorgeously patterned characin that may be found across much of South America, generally in enormous shoals. They are a quiet, omnivorous fish that make excellent dithers for predatory fish or huge cichlids and are a popular and sought after addition to extremely large community tanks. They are a migratory species that travels great distances to breed in the wild. They enjoy clean, oxygen-rich water with a moderate circulation in the tank and thrive on a diversified diet rich in plant stuff. For bigger aquariums or those with large or predatory species, this species may be a good nuisance algae eater.
