Polypterus delhezi for sale (Armoured bichir)
Polypterus is a genus of freshwater fish known as the bichir family. These fish have lungs but no trachea. They are obligate air breathers which means they must breathe air periodically or they suffocate.
Polypterus delhezi will accept a wide range of water conditions but the different species do have different preferences which should be met if possible. P. delhezi will all be quite happy as long as extremes in pH and hardness are avoided. Additionally, they are escape artists and a covered aquarium is highly suggested.
Polypterus are carnivorous but will sometimes accept
large cichlid pellets. Fresh or frozen food is eagerly consumed. In terms of their behavior, they are mostly nocturnal but they may appear shy in well lighted aquariums.
A carnivorous species, the Delhezi Bichir requires live food in its diet as well as chopped meats and beef heart.
The Delhezi or Armored Bichir is a medium-sized member of Polypterus' "upper jaw" complex that may be found over most of Central Africa's Congo River Basin. This species is popular in the hobby and is currently being bred commercially in Southeast Asia, thanks to its big body, ancient look, and distinctive banded pattern. They are sturdy and undemanding, like other Bichir species, but should be housed with a tight-fitting and perhaps weighted lid since they will try to leap if scared or at night.A carnivorous species, the Delhezi Bichir requires live food in its diet as well as chopped meats and beef heart.
